Well, the 2008 Oscars have come and gone… but that doesn’t mean that we should stop talking about all the fashion choices from the show! I want to know what you guys think about the red carpet dresses. On the left, we have a photo of Hilary Swank, who wore a one-strap black gown. The gown was embellished with a criss-cross texture, and Hilary chose to wear her hair in a simple up-do. Below, we have a photo of Jennifer Garner. Jennifer also wore a black gown, except hers was strapless and featured ruffles at the bottom. Jennifer also wore her hair up, and she paired the dress with a beautiful diamond necklace. Whose outfit do you like best?
The idea of leggings seems to evoke either endorsement and adoration or hatred and frustration. Some women swear by leggings– you know, the ones who wear them as pants. Other women won’t go near the things. Personally, I think that leggings can look alright if they are done right. I have to admit that I liked the tube top and leggings outfit that Kevin created on “Project Runway.” But I definitely believe that leggings have been waaaaay overdone! I’ve seen them so much that I would actually rather see someone wearing some super baggy MC Hammer pants. My advice is to stick with regular pants 95% of the time. Think you can distinguish the runway collections of this spring? Take a look at this picture, which showcases a look from the spring 2008 collection of one famous designer. Do you know who the designer is?
A few weeks ago, Earth Pledge debuted its FutureFashion show, which featured eco-friendly designs created by top designers from New York, Milan, and Paris. The materials used– all sustainable– included organic wool, organic cotton, sasawashi (a fabric made from bamboo), and pina fiber (made from pineapple extract). Some of the clothes were super cute! I especially like this adorable dress by Rodarte.
That’s right, ladies and gents… get out your hot pink, lime green, and tangerine orange clothes, because neons are back! Style.com reports that the trendy colors for the upcoming season are “ultrabright.” So if you want to wear yellow, stick to lemon yellow; if you want to wear violet, stick to a medium purple shade; if you want to wear blue, stick to electric blue. I definitely plan on applying the neon trend to handbags. A bright bag would add a fabulous pop of color to any outfit. Check out this Juicy Couture green handbag, for example!
This trend draws on the desires of little girls everywhere. The ballerina style is light, gentle, and feminine, and includes boatneck tops and floaty dresses and skirts. Take a look at these flirty tops– a sleeveless peasant top by Casting and a silk chiffon ruffle camisole by Penta. This Kay Unger v-neck bubble dress is another example of the trendy ballerina style.
No, the Brooks Brothers aren’t stripping for a camera or running around topless. But they are doing something considered pretty wild for the conservative company– releasing a black version of their famous Oxford shirt. In all the 189 years that the Brooks Brothers have been in business, they have never offered the classic button-down shirt in black. Times are a-changin’, however, and the new color will be debuted this spring.

This Kay Unger shantung v-neck dress features a pink gradient, a large red bow, and floral embroidery. The shape is flattering and the style is feminine- but is the design too busy to be fashionable?
Tommy Hilfiger and French soccer player Thierry Henry are working together to create a clothing collection. The collection is named after Henry’s anti-racism foundation, One 4 All, and is scheduled to launch on October 2nd. The proceeds from the collection’s trench coats will all go to the foundation. Although I can’t comment on the quality of the clothes yet, I can say that the underlying principle is great- it doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, or any color in between!
