Anyone know what a keffiyeh is? It’s a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. So why, you might ask, is Chris Brown wearing one? Well, we all know that Chris Brown sure as hell isn’t Arab. Some of you may not know, however, that the keffiyeh is actually becoming a trend in Hollywood! Jay-Z and other celebrities have also been seen wearing one. What do you think of the keffiyeh? Is it a cool replacement for a scarf? Or does its political, religious, and cultural meanings outweigh its potential as a fashion trend?

The idea of leggings seems to evoke either endorsement and adoration or hatred and frustration. Some women swear by leggings– you know, the ones who wear them as pants. Other women won’t go near the things. Personally, I think that leggings can look alright if they are done right. I have to admit that I liked the tube top and leggings outfit that Kevin created on “Project Runway.” But I definitely believe that leggings have been waaaaay overdone! I’ve seen them so much that I would actually rather see someone wearing some super baggy MC Hammer pants. My advice is to stick with regular pants 95% of the time.

That’s right, ladies and gents… get out your hot pink, lime green, and tangerine orange clothes, because neons are back! Style.com reports that the trendy colors for the upcoming season are “ultrabright.” So if you want to wear yellow, stick to lemon yellow; if you want to wear violet, stick to a medium purple shade; if you want to wear blue, stick to electric blue. I definitely plan on applying the neon trend to handbags. A bright bag would add a fabulous pop of color to any outfit. Check out this Juicy Couture green handbag, for example!

Yet another trend for 2008 is the maxi dress. For those of you who don’t already know, the maxi dress is simply a very long dress– it usually extends to the floor. The maxi dress can be worn in many variations of colors and prints. Plus, it’s good for hiding any problem areas! If you’re not quite ready to wear a floor-length dress, you can try a dress that extends to the calf. Look at this Kay Unger chiffon handkerchief dress, for example. It’s cute, colorful, and stylish, but not over-the-top at all.
Another trend of 2008 is safari style. Go for bold prints– floral prints, animal prints, and so on. You can also achieve the safari style with wooden jewelry and other organic-looking accessories. This Kay Unger ruched nylon dress features a palm leaf print in shades of green and brown, which fits this trend perfectly.
While browsing the iVillage website today, I came upon a list of the top trends of 2008. First on the list? Vibrant colors. This spring, express yourself in bright oranges, pinks, yellows, greens, blues, violets, and whatever other colors you can think of! For some inspiration, check out this Nicole Miller pink floral slip dress.

The trench coat has been popping up everywhere. It seems like ever since it was featured on “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style,” I’ve been seeing it all over the place– in stores, on the streets, in magazines… Although the trench coat is normally used for rainy weather in the fall and spring months, there is no reason why we can’t apply the style to winter coats. This Anne Klein wool-blend seamed collared coat has the feel of a trench coat, thanks to a flared bottom and a belt at the waist. This Y Apparel black quilted fur trimmed long coat also looks like a trench coat– it features a double-breasted design, a large collar, and a belt. And if you’d prefer it in a different color, brown is also available.

Fabsugar has compiled a list of the top trends in coats. There are many different styles of coats that have become popular, including the warm and cozy down coat. The down coat is particularly important because it offers something practical for those who live in colder climates. Fabsugar stresses that if you are going to buy a down coat, make sure it is sleek and stylish rather than bulky and dowdy. Check out this Kenneth Cole Reaction quilted down coat. With its hood and long length (it hits just below the knee), this coat is sure to protect you from the cold weather. And I really love the sea foam blue color– it creates the perfect combination of elegance and playfulness. It also comes in white, for those who want a more basic color. Another beautiful down coat is this one by Via Spiga. Its cute quilted design and fabulous fur trim are ideal for this season.
